December 9th - In the aftermath of the recent flooding in Lycoming County and the subsequent needs that came from the devastation, donations are down to many organizations. Regional news station WNEP aired a clip, Charitable Donations Down After the Flood, which provides a glimpse as to how donations to flooding victims has impacted other service organizations throughout the county. The clip includes comments from NCSS President/C.E.O., Robert Garrett.
December 7th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. held its annual holiday party for agency clients and associates. There were 148 individuals in attendance at this year's event. Santa Claus made a special visit and entertained the children of all ages. Entertainment was provided by the Montoursville High School Band under the direction of Adam Right and gifts were provided by the Abram and Dorthy Snyder and Plankenhorn Foundations. "Despite the snowy weather, everyone had a great time," said Robert Garrett, NCSS President/C.E.O. "We always enjoy being able to provide a small gift to the clients and NCSS associates during the
holiday season," said Skip Greevy, Plankenhorn Foundation President.
November 29th - Mike Hayes from the Muncy Lions presented Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O. of North Central Sight Services, Inc. with a check from funds raised at the club’s Annual Golf Tournament. “This year, the Muncy Lions and NCSS partnered to promote the event,” said Garrett. “It is a great partnership.” “NCSS provides us with valuable support and promotes the event and we return the funds to NCSS to help them serve our neighbors and friends,” said Hayes. “We are already planning next year’s event.”

November 2nd - The VISION Support Group sponsored by North Central Sight Services, Inc. traveled to Clyde Peeling's Reptile Land on October 21st, 2011. The VISION Support Group attended a presentation on lizards and snakes. Members of the group were able to touch the reptiles. The group also toured the dinosaur exhibit, alligator exhibit and the other various reptile exhibits.
November 1st - North Central Sight Services, Inc. recently began a wellness initiative to promote healthy living among its associates. With the assistance of Geisinger Health, the program was kicked off with a step walking contest and a body management program. North Central Sight Services, Inc. would like to thank the participating associates for their enthusiasm as we are on the road to a healthier lifestyle!

PA Vehicle Code (Title 75)
Chapter 35 - Subchapter C - Section 3549. Blind pedestrians.
(a) General rule.—The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to any totally or partially blind pedestrian carrying a clearly visible white cane or accompanied by a guide dog and shall take such precautions as may be necessary to avoid injuring or endangering the pedestrian and, if necessary, shall stop the vehicle in order to prevent injury or danger to the pedestrian.
(b)
Effect of absence of cane or dog.—This section shall not be construed to deprive a totally or partially blind pedestrian not carrying a cane or not being guided by a dog of the rights and privileges conferred by law upon pedestrians crossing streets or highways, nor shall the failure of a totally or partially blind pedestrian to carry a cane or to be guided by a guide dog upon the streets, highways or sidewalks of this Commonwealth be held to constitute contributory negligence in and of itself.
October 11th - North Central Sight Services Associate Julia Barger was recognized at the 2011 National Industries for the Blind Training (NIB) Conference held in New Orleans October 5th-8th. Barger was the Peter Salmon Employee of the Year nominee. She was honored along with 80 other honorees for their outstanding commitment to their work within the NIB network of agencies that produce products for the Federal government under the AbilityOne Program. October 3rd - The Twenty-Seventh Annual Lions Appreciation Night, sponsored by North Central Sight Services, Inc., was held Monday, October 3rd at the Genetti Hotel and Convention Center. Nineteen Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs from Clinton, Lycoming, and Sullivan counties were in attendance. At this year’s Lions Appreciation Night, $17,200 was pledged by the clubs in attendance from the three county area. With this commitment, these clubs have now given in excess of $580,000 toward the programs and services of the local agency. September 28th - At the North Central Sight Services Inc. Board of Directors meeting held on Tuesday September 27, 2011 to select individuals to serve as Officers of the corporation from November 1, 2011 through October 31, 2012. September 22nd - The Prevention of Blindness Department of North Central Sight Services, Inc. has been using the SureSight vision screener from WelchAllyn for the past two years. This equipment has allowed us to screen children at a younger age with more accurate results. Just one of the success stories with the SureSight was noted by a mother from the Centre County area. She didn't know if her 3-1/2 year-old daughter had an eye issue or whether she just wasn't looking where she was going. She was bumping into objects and had a habit of rubbing her eyes. The short non-invasive screening with the SureSight suggested that the girl had astigmatism in both eyes. The child was referred to an eye care professional who prescribed glasses for the problem. The mother thanked the Prevention of Blindness Department of North Central Sight Services for doing the free screenings because otherwise she may never have known something was wrong with her daughter's vision.
September 22nd - North Central Sight Services, Inc. Associate Steve Britton was featured in a Lycoming United Way Public Service Announcement Video. Steve shares his story and experience with vision loss and how North Central Sight Services, Inc. has assisted him in adapting. The video was produced by Lycoming County United Way in support of its campaign.
September 19th - On Monday September 19, 2011, North Central Sight Services, Inc. dedicated its new Abe Snyder Memorial Vision Resource Center. The Center is equipped with many adaptive aids, accessible computers, marked kitchen appliances and enough seating for group events.
“We are excited to be able to make it possible for our customers to come to our great facility and learn the skills to keep them independent living in their own homes,” said Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O.
The Vision Resource Center was named in memory of Abram Snyder, one of the founding fathers of the Plankenhorn Foundation and a longtime supporter of the agency. In attendance at the dedication were members from the NCSS Board of Directors, representatives from the Plankenhorn Foundation and Abe's daughter, Elizabeth and son, Carl. Refreshments and cookies were prepared by NCSS customers Tina Helm and Joyce Gnoffo.
August 25th - The Muncy Lions Club and North Central Sight Services, Inc. Golf Tournament held August 19th, 2011 was very successful. Eleven teams participated and 41 companies and individuals purchased hole sponsorships. More than $3,600 was raised for Lions' charities and NCSS.
"This is the first year that NCSS has partnered with the Muncy Lions for this event. I was really pleased with the outcome and we'll certainly be involved next year, " said Robert Garrett, NCSS President/C.E.O.

August 23rd - North Central Sight Services, Inc. Associate Steve Britton was featured in a Lycoming United Way Public Service Announcement to share his story and experience with vision loss in support of the Lycoming United Way.
August 22nd - North Central Sight Services, Inc. hosted a Yard Sale and Bake Sale on Saturday, August 20th. Items for the yard sale were donated by Associates and their families. A handmade quilt donated by Nancy Roupp was raffled and won by Sandra Lukowsky. It was a successful event with $712.76 raised for the agency.
June 29th - North Central Sight Services, Inc., the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services, and the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind hosted a Vision Expo on Wednesday, June 29th at the Hiram G. Andrews Center in Johnstown, PA. The expo focused on promoting services and products to enhance the lives of people with vision loss. The Vision Expo Resource Guide is available for download.

June 27, 2011- A new app is available for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and the iPad2 that identifies paper currency for people who are blind or visually impaired. The EyeNote app was developed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. EyeNote is built for the Apple iOS and allows the user to scan paper currency and will then communicates the value to the user. June 21, 2011- North Central Sight Services, Inc. is assisting in administering the Pennsylvania Broadband Initiative Survey. The survey is being conducted across the state by Pennsylvania Association for the Blind to determine who is currently using broadband, where they are located, who doesn't have broadband but would like to have it, and for what purpose(s) they would use it. The results will be provided to the state to better serve individuals who are blind or visually impaired that would benefit from having broadband. Take the Pennsylvania Broadband Initiative Survey and enter "Local Blind Association" at the bottom of the survey.

June 7, 2011 - Sierra Frantz, who works for North Central Sight Services in the Photo License Center and as an Order Processor was honored this week at a dinner sponsored by the Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped (PIBH). Sierra was a runner-up for the Netty Mann Achievement Award which is designated for an individual with disabilities who has overcome challenges to be employed and be a productive member of society.
American Idol Finalist Scott MacIntyre was the guest speaker at the banquet.

June 7, 2011 - U.S. Representative Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, visited North Central Sight Services, Inc. on Monday, June 6th. In March, Marino promised to visit when President/C.E.O. May 11, 2011 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. appeared in a nationwide press release issued by Imation Corp. The press release announced Imation was the recipient of North Central Sight Services, Inc.'s "2010 Distinguished Partner of the Year" for its work to supply components and support for the SKILCRAFT Encrypted Optical Media and SKILCRAFT FIPS 140-2, Level 3 USB Flash Drives for the AbilityOne Program. May 11, 2011 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. raised $1,275 for the Lion's Journey for Sight walk held May 1, 2011. Thirteen Associates participated in the walk that resulted in a direct donation of $637.50. The Associates that participated in the fundraiser were: Robert Garrett, Jamie Snyder, Julia Turner, Katie Roupp Chandler, Sierra Frantz, Mary Crawley, Mary Kelley, Joyce Gnoffo, John Bloomer, Barbara Snauffer, Steve Britton and Todd Kilps. April 12, 2011 - NCSS held its Annual Dinner Meeting at the Genetti Tuesday evening. Mayor Gabe Campana proclaimed April 12, 2011 North Central Sight Services, Inc. day in recognition of what our organization does for the residents of our community.

March 22, 2011 - Caseworker Gina Miller, former Associate Linda Overmoyer and her guide dog Roxy presented a program on guide dogs to two local daycares in Lawrenceville in the Northern Tier area. Linda provided children of Ransom’s Daycare and Calvary United Methodist Childcare Center information on the training a guide dog receives, as well as how to care for and maintain a guide dog. NCSS provided a folder to each child which contained information on guide dog etiquette, a coloring picture, eye safety tips, a bookmark and a pencil. These items were compliments of the Leader Dog facility in Yorktown Heights, New York. The children enjoyed the program and interacting with Roxy.
March 18, 2011 - On March 16, 2011 Jamie Snyder, Vice-President of Operations and Bob Garrett, President/C.E.O. visited representatives in Washington D.C. These meetings were a part of the National Industries for the Blind Public Policy Forum held each year to engage agencies with their Senators and Congressman. Snyder and Garrett with with a Staffer from Senator Toomey’s office.
“We gave him an overview of the AbilityOne program, told him about North Central Sight Services and how much the programs means to our Associates asked him for his support for all Federal agencies to purchase Skilcraft products,” said Garrett.“We met with Congressman Morino from the 10th District and gave him the same message. Congressman Morino will be visiting our Agency at some time in the near future,” said Garrett. “I’m excited that he is taking the time to learn about what we do in our community and how the Federal AbilityOne program makes great fiscal sense for our Associates and for the Federal Government.”
March 18, 2011 - Applications are now available on North Central Sight Services, Inc. Events for STEP, Student Transition to Employment or Education Preparation to be held May 13th-15th at the Beacon Lodge in Mount Union, PA. STEP, sponsored by Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, is to help prepare students ages 12-21 and parents for the transition process into employment or higher education. February 18, 2011 - On February 18, 2011, North Central Sight Services received its second year ISO9001 - 2008 recertification. The auditor found no non-conformances. “We have recognized the importance and the real world benefits of the ISO certification,” said Garrett. “In 2010, we were able to save in excess of $250,000 just because we continually reviewed our current practices and talked to our suppliers about reducing their prices. Our success can be directly attributed to following the ISO process,” said Garrett.
January 28, 2011 - On January 10, a Bowling Brigade was held at Maple Lanes in Mansfield, PA. In attendance was Amy Rusk, Shawna Bockus, Emily Burdick, Virginia Murphy, Diane Gonzalez and Gina Miller. All had a great time eating, bowling and socializing. January 25, 2011 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. received a check for $3,795 as a part of the proceeds from the Cutters Fifth Annual Hot Stove Banquet held at the Genetti on Monday evening. More than 250 guests attended this event with local sports figures and Phillies celebrities entertaining the crowd. “This is especially fun for me,“ said Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O. “I’m a hard-core fan so giving me the opportunity to talk baseball and receive a donation for our organization is wonderful.”

January 25, 2011- On Thursday January 20, 2011, North Central Sight Services hosted a PM Exchange for the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce at its 2121 Reach Road facility. 140 Guests and agency Associates attended the event. Participants learned about the rehabilitation, prevention/education and employment programs of NCSS.
“I was thrilled with the attendance and the interest in our organization,” said Robert B. Garrett, President/C.E.O. “I received many glowing comments not only about our building but about our dedicated Associates who openly shared their enthusiasm and knowledge about how we make a difference in our community."

December 29th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. was honored by National Industries for the Blind with the Employment Retention/Growth/Upward Mobility Reward Program Award.North Central Sight Services, Inc. was awarded $5,796 to reinvest in new initiatives to create, sustain and improve career opportunities for people who are blind.
December 15th - Associates of North Central Sight Services, Inc. attended the annual Tour of Lights with fourteen clients on Monday, December 13th, 2010. The Tour of Lights is a trolley ride through the city of Williamsport to look at holiday lights. Participants sang along to holiday music and received a surprise visit from Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. After the trolley ride, clients warmed up with hot cocoa and refreshments at the Peter Herdic Transportation Museum.
December 9th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. held its Annual Client Holiday Party, sponsored by The Harry Plankenhorn Foundation, on Wednesday, December 8 at the Pine Street United Methodist Church. There were 160 clients, guests and volunteers in attendance.
Entertainment was provided by the Montoursville Jazz Band under the direction of Dennis Carpenter. Refreshments were served by the NCSS team and additional assistance was provided by the Pine Street Youth Group. Charles Greevy, III and Mark Huffman represented the Plankenhorn Foundation and were assisted by the staff of North Central Sight Services to distribute gifts to the clients of the agency.
Both Mr. Greevy and Mr. Garrett acknowledged the passing of Abe Snyder, an originating founder of the Plankenhorn Foundation. Abe passed away in March of 2010 at the age of 99. “Abe always kept the needs of people who are blind first and foremost.” said Garrett. “He was a great man and is certainly missed. He touched the lives of thousands of people through his involvement with the foundation,” Garrett said.
December 3rd - North Central Sight Services, Inc. Associates Mary Crawley and Gina Miller conducted a presentation on sight-loss prevention and Braille to the local third graders at R. B. Walter Elementary School in Tioga, PA. The students were reading “Through Grandpa’s Eyes” by Patricia MacLachlan, a story about a young boy whose grandfather is blind. The grandfather then teaches the boy to utilize his other senses to conduct daily routines.
The elementary school students were very inquisitive and eager to learn about Braille. Mary and Gina provided the third graders a Braille copy of “Through Grandpa’s Eyes.” This program was inspired by Associate Gina Miller's daughter. As a special thank-you to the North Central Sight Services Associates, the students created a Braille card out of split peas.
November 30th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. was selected to receive proceeds from the 5th Annual Hot Stove League Dinner & Auction hosted by the Williamsport Crosscutters on January 24th, 2011. This annually sold-out event will be held at The Genetti Hotel in downtown Williamsport. More information and instructions on ordering tickets will be announced soon. November 19th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. was selected to host a 2011 PM Exchange for the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce to be held on January 20th, 5:00PM-7:00PM. The event is open to members of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and will feature facility tours, door prizes and refreshments.
November 19th - The Blindness Awareness Expo sponsored by North Central Sight Services, the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind and the Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services was held at the Williamsport Holiday Inn on Thursday, November 18th, 2010. Forty vendors displayed their wares and talked to participants about services. Many health screenings were provided and the American Red Cross Bloodmobile accepted donations. More than one-hundred people participated in the days activities.
"I was thrilled with the turnout, " said Robert Garrett, NCSS President/C.E.O. "Our team has invested a lot of time and energy into the event and we believe it was a great success."
A list of service providers and a Resource Guide is available for download. North Central Sight Services will be conducting another expo on June 29th in Johnstown, PA. The intent is to broaden the awareness of vision loss, what services are available and how to access those services.

November 1st - NCSS has dedicated its Vision Center in memory of Abram Snyder, one of the founding fathers of the Plankenhorn Foundation. The Foundation celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008 and made a very generous donation to NCSS honoring Mr. Snyder. “It is only appropriate that we honor one of the founders of this great organization,” said Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O of North Central Sight Services. “Abe dedicated his life to helping others and along with Harry and Gus Plankenhorn, they established a legacy that has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of our mission and helped many other organizations in our area,” said Garrett. Abe Snyder passed away in March of 2010 at the age of 99. A formal dedication of the Center is planned for early 2011.
October 29th - On September 17, Linda Overmoyer and her dog Roxy visited a local third grade class at R. B. Walter Elementary School in Tioga, PA. Linda educated the kids on how she utilizes a white cane, a human guide (Gina Miller), and her guide dog Roxy. The students enjoyed the presentation and were able to pet Roxy when she was no longer on her harness. North Central Sight Services, Inc. provided each child with a folder that contained information on guide dog etiquette, fun activities and information on the services offered by North Central Sight Services, Inc.
October 29th - The Workplace Safety Committee of North Central Sight Services,Inc. was awarded its annual certification renewal, granted by the PA Department of Labor & Industry, under Section 1002 (b) of the Workers’ Compensation Act. This will save North Central Sight Services, Inc. five percent on workman’s compensation premium.
October 29th - The Susquehanna County Support Group of North Central Sight Services, Inc. met on October 6th, 2010 and featured Mary Webb. Webb, a licensed dietician from the Endless Mountains Health System gave a presentation on "Tips for a Healthy Diet and Diabetic Management." October 27th - The Hadley School for the Blind is hosting its Annual Braille Holiday Card Sale. The Holiday Card Sale is one of Hadley’s most unique and successful fundraisers. It’s a way to give something during this season of giving that benefits the larger cause of helping our blind and visually impaired students worldwide. October 4th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. held its Twenty-Sixth Annual Lions Appreciation Night on October 4th at the Williamsport Holiday Inn. There were nineteen Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs from Clinton, Lycoming, and Sullivan Counties. At this year's event, $17,600 was pledged by clubs in the three-county area. September 24th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. Associate Mary Crawley was recently featured in the Muncy Luminary for presenting the C. Well Bunny Program. Crawley visited the Hughesville Library for the Pre-School Story Hour to educate children about eye health and eye safety. The C. Well Bunny Program was created by the Center for Vision Loss, formerly known as the Visual Impairment and Blindness Services of Bethlehem, PA. C. Well Bunny Program provides safety tips such as wearing sunglasses, not pointing or throwing sharp objects towards the eye, and to tell an adult if eyes burn or itch. September 22nd - Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O. of North Central Sight Services, Inc. is pictured with Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce President Vince Matteo on United Way Campaign Kick-off posters. The posters feature Garrett proudly wearing his Philadelphia Phillies baseball cap and Matteo sporting his New York Yankees hat with the theme, "Even rivals agree, United Way produces championship results. Support the annual campaign." The "Live United-Give United" posters will be distributed throughout the community in support of the Lycoming County United Way.
September 15th - The Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped (PIBH) held their bi-monthly Board of Directors meeting at the Holiday Inn Williamsport on Wednesday September 15, 2010. Members of the PIBH staff and Board traveled to Williamsport for this important event. The day before the meeting, everyone toured North Central Sight Services, a PIBH member, rode on the Herdick Trolley, the Hiawatha and had a fantastic meal at Haywood’s on the Water. “We were pleased to have PIBH visit our fine city,” said Bob Garrett, President/C.E.O. of North Central Sight Services. “These are my colleagues and they do similar work and have similar missions. We all help people improve their lives through employment,” said Garrett. “Everyone was impressed with our fine facility, the positive attitude and friendliness of our Associates and the evenings events,” Garrett said.
PIBH has 73 members, more than 2200 disabled employees who benefit from their contracts for products and services with a budget of $30,000,000.
September 1st - North Central Sight Services, Inc. will be installing a new pad-printer. The pad-printing equipment will allow North Central Sight Services, Inc. to print cases for the new SKILCRAFT Level 3 USB Flash Drive with FIPS Validated Encryption, as well as custom logo USB Flash Drives and other custom-printed products.
August 31st - North Central Sight Services, Inc. welcomes new Associate Eileen McKaig to the Sales/Marketing Team. McKaig was named Outside Sales Representative and will promote SKILCRAFT Computer Media and SKILCRAFT USB Flash Drives to the Federal Government. She comes to North Central Sight Services, Inc. with ten years of experience in technology sales for data storage and encryption. Based out of Gypsum, CO, McKaig enjoys skiing, white water rafting and hiking.
August 30th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. recently acquired new equipment for the production of its SKILCRAFT products. Two label applicator machines were installed to increase efficiency and reduce inventory on packaging materials. One generic package was created for each packaging configuration of the SKILCRAFT Recycled Laser/Inkjet Labels. The label applicators and generic packaging will reduce North Central Sight Services, Inc.'s carbon footprint by labeling one box for multiple uses.
August 26th - North Central Sight Services, Inc. Associate Sierra Frantz has been selected to appear in the 2011 EYES Large-Print Calendar produced by Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Vision Impaired. The calendar theme is "The Arts" and will feature stories about individuals who are blind or visually impaired that are artists or musicians. Diagnosed with Septo-optic Dysplasia when she was two years-old, Sierra Frantz does not allow her limited vision to affect her creativity. She is a sketch artist and is currently enrolled in online courses to study Graphic Design. North Central Sight Services, Inc. also submitted Musician Greg Steinbacher who has been singing and playing the guitar for twenty-three years. Greg performs country music at the Birdhouse restaurant in Montoursville, PA.
August 18th - PIBH (Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped) will be holding its September Board of Directors meeting in Williamsport. Thirty-five individuals made up of members of the Board of Directors and PIBH staff will tour North Central Sight Services, Inc. on September 14th, 2010. They will take the Herdick Trolley to the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat and cruise up the river for a relaxing dinner at Haywood's on the Water. The Board of Directors will meet the next morning.
“We want to be sure that the PIBH Board of Directors enjoys their stay in Williamsport and gets a taste of what our area has to offer,” said Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O. of North Central Sight Services, Inc. “This is a very special group of persons who are charged in providing guidance and meaningful counsel to the PIBH Staff and its President."

August 2, 2010 - Reps. Edolphus Towns, D-N.Y., and Brian Bilbray, R-Calif. introduced legislation to modernize the AbilityOne Program, a program that provides jobs for the blind and disabled. The new bill would update AbilityOne's procurement provisions to make them compatible with modern regulations, statutes and procedures, the lawmakers said. The rate of unemployment for individuals who are blind or have other significant disabilities is 70%. The new legislation will provide more tools to increase job opportunities. July 23, 2010 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. is going to discontinue its Document Imaging Services effective July 30, 2010. The program began two and half years ago and experienced some success. Due to current economic conditions, the Board of Directors made the decision to discontinue the services. July 1, 2010 - Effective July 1, 2010, Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O. of North Central Sight Services, Inc. was elected to serve as the Treasurer for the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, or PAB. PAB provides funding from OVR for Social Services and Prevention of Blindness services to its 29 members throughout the state of Pennsylvania. The term is for two years and Garrett will serve as an officer and oversee the fiscal matters of the Harrisburg-based agency.

June 30, 2010 - A North Central Sight Services, Inc. Associate recently completed the Heartsaver AED/CPR Instructor Course through the American Heart Association. Associate Julia Turner, Human Resources Director, completed the the course at Susquehanna Health System and is now certified to teach CPR for North Central Sight Services, Inc.
June 22, 2010 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. recently added two new features its website, www.ncsight.org. A North Central Sight Services, Inc. Events Page was added to keep the community informed of upcoming vision screenings, health fairs, and special events. North Central Sight Services, Inc. also launched its YouTube Channel, NCSS Blind Services. The channel hosts a video produced by the Pennsylvania College of Technology Media Arts and Video Production department and features commentary from agency Associates and customers.
May 28, 2010 - On Friday May 28, 2010, we hosted our annual Employee Appreciation picnic at Kremser’s landing in Montoursville. We played horse shoes, had some challenging games and spent a lot of time laughing and socializing. “Our Associates are our most valuable asset,” said Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O. “Giving back a day for fun, food and games is a small price to pay to express our appreciation to everyone who works hard each day helping us meet our mission.”
May 24, 2010 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. is now certified to ship hazardous materials, CFR 49, AFMAN 24-204 and IATA. The three-day training for shipping military and commercial hazardous materials was taught by John Gerrish from John Gerrish & Associates, LLC., an Airpack affiiliate. Six Associates completed the training-Tim Clark, Evette Buck, Terri Kio, Toni Kissinger, John Bloomer and Melissa Myers.
May 17, 2010 - Digital ads promoting the Foundation Fighting Blindness and VisionWalk will be running for an entire month on the Thompson Reuters and NASDAQ buildings in Times Square in New York City, NY. The ads have terrific potential for raising international awareness of the Foundation and the need for increased funding into blindness research. May 13, 2010 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. Associate Lesley Larson, Senior Sales/Marketing Representative, participated in the Office Eagle Base Supply Center Customer Appreciation Event held at Fort Knox, KY. The event featured a Wild West Murder Mystery theme and allowed Federal Base Supply Center customers to interact with associated non-profit agencies that produce SKILCRAFT products. Office Eagle is owned and operated by Blind Industries and Services of Maryland.
May 7, 2010 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. received a grant from National Industries for the Blind and the Contractor Compliance Enhancement Program, or CCE. CCE was created to help associated agencies develop, upgrade, customize, and implement specific programs to improve contractor compliance. The $13,000 grant will be used to help pay for the recent ISO9001:2008 Certification that North Central Sight Services, Inc. received on March 2, 2010.
May 5, 2010 - Associates and their families raised a total of $1,371 for the America's Lions Journey for Sight. Associate Megan Lucas raised the most with a total of $322. The Associates that participated in the fundraiser were Megan Lucas, Jamie Snyder, Toni Kissinger, Paul Diehl, Penny Cummings, Joyce Gnoffo, Bobbie Snauffer, Todd Kilps, John Bloomer, Heather Engle, Lori Love and Bob Garrett. May 2, 2010 - The annual America's Lions Journey for Sight 5K Fun Walk was held in Hepburnville on Sunday, May 2nd. The event is sponsored by Lions and Lioness Clubs nationwide to raise funds to prevent blindness. There were 140 participants with various civic organizations represented. April 13, 2010 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. held its Annual Dinner Meeting at the Holiday Inn, Williamsport on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. March 19, 2010 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. was mentioned in a nationwide press release issued by Imation Corp. The release was about the development of encrypted optical media utilizing EncryptDisc technology. The technology will be used on SKILCRAFT CDs and DVDs supplied by North Central Sight Services, Inc. and will be offered to Federal Government customers. March 2, 2010 - After 11 months of hard work and a unified commitment by all associates, North Central Sight Services Inc. received ISO Certification for its quality system on March 2. Only 20 percent of companies in the United States have reached this level of certification. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is requiring that businesses who have contracts with DoD must be ISO certified. NCSS is a DoD supplier of military targets and computer media. Additionally, the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind is requiring their member agencies to be either accredited or ISO certified to ensure ongoing funding. NCSS is committed to providing quality services and products to our government customers and those people who are blind that receive our assistance. ISO just puts in place the tools to evaluate what you do and to continually improve. |

September 23, 2009 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. is transitioning from its current radio reading service to the NFB Newsline. The NFB Newsline has been in existence since 1995 and currently carries 300 newspapers and other publications on its service. The service is free with the only eligibility criteria being that the user must be unable to read print. Newsline now carries the Williamsport Sun Gazette as well as the Wilkes-Barre Leader Times and other regional and national papers. July 22, 2009 - On Tuesday July 21, 2009, Robert Garrett, President/C.E.O. threw out the first pitch at the Williamsport Crosscutters game on NCSS Night. The Williamsport Crosscutters are a Minor League Baseball team and a Class A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
“I practiced for about two weeks to be sure I got the ball over the plate,” said Garrett. I love baseball but being blind, I really didn’t know how to throw a ball.” Jamie Snyder, Vice-President of Operations and Tim Clark, Shipping Clerk helped Garrett during the lunch hour to be sure he “didn’t embarrass the family!” Garrett said, “I’m glad I didn’t bounce it and thrilled I got it to the catcher.” The agency had a display right inside the entrance gate showcasing agency services and employment opportunities.

May 17, 2009 - Associate Joyce Gnoffo was featured in the article "North Central Sight Services focuses on vision" in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. Joyce, diagnosed with glaucoma when she was 20, continues to work hard every day to overcome the obstacles the disease has created in her life.

October 2, 2008 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. held its first Health and Wellness Expo, "Keep an Eye on Your Health." Over 30 health experts participated and provided attendees information on living independently. Vision and hearing screenings were also performed. The event was for all ages and included food and prize drawings.
April 15, 2008 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. received national exposure by being featured in the OfficeMax Government Solutions Catalog. The catalog is distributed to government employees nationwide. The full-page ad contained an overview of North Central Sight Services, Inc. and introduced the SKILCRAFT USB Flash Drives.
March 24, 2008 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. received a gift of $10,000 from Citizens and Northern Bank for its Capital Campaign. Jim Lazorca, Regional Vice President and Mark Huffman, Vice President and Trust Officer presented the check to Jeff Rauff, NCSS Board Chair.

October 9, 2007 - North Central Sight Services, In. continues its stellar safety record with three years of no reportable accidents. As of October 8, 2007, NCSS has gone 1,104 days without a reportable in-house accident. All of this while employing 58 people and 38 associates being legally blind. Safety remains a core competency and concern throughout the organization. North Central Sight Services, Inc. has an active Safety Committee that meets once a month to discuss safety issues and conduct safety inspections.
September 25, 2007 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. received a gift of $15,000 from Muncy Bank and Trust for its Capital Campaign. Dan Berninger, President of Muncy Bank presented the check to Ken Sawyer, Campaign Chair and Jeff Rauff, NCSS Board Chair.
September 20, 2007 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. added a new product to the list of items it can sell to the federal government, creating a minimum of eight new jobs for people who are blind or visually impaired. Two lines of SKILCRAFT USB Flash Drives were added to the Federal Procurement List. The products feature a plug-and-play model and a high security 256-bit AES Encrypted model.
September 16, 2007 - Susquehanna Bank pledged $20,000 to North Central Sight Services, Inc. in support of its Capital Campaign. Rex Hilton, Regional President of Susquehanna Bank presented the check to Ken Sawyer, Campaign Chair and Jeff Rauff, NCSS Board Chair.
September 14, 2007 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. held an Open House and ribbon-cutting at its new location on 2121 Reach Road. NCSS invited members of the community to tour and learn more about the organization.
January 7, 2007 - North Central Sight Services, Inc. was selected to be the 2007 Capital Campaign. The goal of the campaign is to raise $1,200,000 to help reduce the debt of the newly renovated 63,000 square foot building on Reach Road. New services and programs were launched as a result of the move from 901 Memorial Avenue to 2121 Reach Road. This included a visual aids store which contains items for people who are blind or visually impaired to help them with everyday tasks.
