Effective September 23, 2009, North Central Sight Services, Inc. is transitioning from its current radio reading service to the NFB Newsline sponsored by the National Federation for the Blind. The service is available twenty-four hours a day through the telephone and provides subscribers the choice of selecting the publication and the sections that interest them.
The NFB Newsline has been in existence since 1995 and currently carries 300 newspapers and other publications on its service. The service is free with the only eligibility criteria being that the user must be unable to read print. Newsline now carries the Williamsport Sun Gazette as well as the Wilkes-Barre Leader Times and other regional and national papers.
Those interested in the NFB Newsline can register by calling their area's Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, or by calling the National Federation of the Blind toll-free at 1-866-504-7300 to request an application. You may also download an application or fill out our online application to register. After your registration is processed, you'll receive a letter containing your activation codes and instructions on how to begin reading the newspaper with NFB Newsline.
