North Central Sight Services, Inc. offers a variety of support services for individuals coping with vision loss. The programs range from independent living skills and to support groups for all ages.
Support Groups
North Central Sight Services, Inc. conducts monthly meetings for two groups. The NCSS Support Group traditionally meets on the first Thursday of the month. Meetings are held in the NCSS Community room and are open to any one experiencing vision loss. A program is planned for every other month and the alternative months are general discussion meetings. The real value of the group is recognized by participants who can freely discuss feelings, perceptions and attitudes with others experiencing the same challenges.
The Young Adult Support Group meets on the third Thursday evening of each month. Meetings are usually held in the NCSS Community room. These meetings and activities address specific issues related to the needs and attitudes of young people experiencing vision loss.
Life Skills and Education - LS&E
North Central Sight Services, Inc. Social Service Staff conducts
monthly LS&E meetings on the afternoon of the third Thursday of the month.
Guest speakers are invited to address the group on a variety of issues relating
to vision loss and blindness.
Recreational Activities
North Central Sight Services, Inc. sponsors several Socialization and Recreation activities throughout the year. The NCSS Ladies Club has been in existence for more than forty years. Ladies of any age are eligible to join and participate in their activities.
NCSS sponsors camp scholarships for adults and children to attend PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp. The eleven-day summer experience is a highlight of the year for many who attend.
NCSS, along with the support of the Plankenhorn Foundation, sponsors a family picnic in June and a Christmas celebration in December. Both of these activities have a long proud tradition of more than seventy-five years.
Aids and Appliances
NCSS retails NOIR sunglasses, a variety of handheld magnifiers, other low vision aids, and cassette book machines.
We are also a distributor of Enhanced Vision Products.
